Sotogrande
Located on the southern coast of Andalucia, Sotogrande was originally founded as a gated community but is now a popular open resort settlement.
The area has spectacular and contrasting views of sea, hills, forests and green fairways. It is located 25 kilometres northeast of Gibraltar, and you can see the famous Rock of Gibraltar and Morocco at vantage points in Sotogrande.
Architecture enthusiasts enjoy the many styles on display as you wander around Sotogrande – from traditional Andalusian to mid-century modern, and more Moorish style homes and even a Swiss chalet!
Sotogrande has plenty of sports to keep you occupied – it is well known for its golf courses, tennis and padel clubs, rugby club, diving club and kayak/sailing club.
The marina in Sotogrande is at the very heart of the community and features restaurants, shops, galleries and even a flourishing market every Sunday (there is also a summer night market on Wednesday and Thursday evenings).
Nature lovers will find themselves easily amused in Sotogrande. The Natural Park of Los Alcornocales is one of the largest cork oak forests in Spain. There are plenty of hiking/walking trails in the region including the Butterfly Trail in Castellar de la Frontera (so named because of the monarch butterfly which lives part of the year here), the Rio de la Miel in Algeciras and the Pinar del Ray trail in San Roque.
Our boats in Sotogrande
Bretema is our small hybrid electric boat based in Sotogrande, designed to offer a quiet, eco-friendly dolphin watching experience in the stunning waters of the Mediterranean. It ensures minimal emissions, allowing for a more sustainable journey that respects the marine environment and its inhabitants.
For our longer experiences through the Strait of Gibraltar, we also sail on board Tealie, a comfortable sailing boat with a warm wooden interior and space to enjoy life at sea at a slower pace. With four double cabins, shared living areas and everything needed for an overnight stay on board, Tealie offers a cosy and welcoming setting for small groups.
During the trips, we are equipped with a hydrophone to listen to the fascinating underwater sounds of dolphins in their natural habitat, enhancing your connection with these incredible animals. We also bring an underwater 360 camera on board to capture marine life beneath the surface and observe its behaviour and beauty from a unique perspective.
Whale and dolphin observation experiences

Join us in Sotogrande for respectful dolphin and whale watching experiences at sea.
Aboard Bretema, the first hybrid electric boat for dolphin watching in Sotogrande, we offer a low-noise, low-emission experience in the Mediterranean. Our morning trips are available both as a shared group experience and as a private experience, where you can book the entire boat for a private journey with friends, family or colleagues.
If you are looking for a deeper experience at sea, you can also join our two-day sailing trip through the Strait of Gibraltar, with an overnight stay on board in Ceuta. It is a special way to combine cetacean watching, sailing and life on board in one of the most fascinating marine areas of southern Spain.
