Species you may encounter
The Strait of Gibraltar is known for its rich marine biodiversity, shaped by its unique location and bathymetry. Depending on the day, you may encounter resident species such as striped dolphins, common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales, which are present year-round.
Sperm whales can also be seen throughout the season, with peaks in spring and summer. During the summer months, fin whales, the second largest animals on Earth, can also be observed as they migrate towards the Atlantic.
Iberian orcas are also occasional visitors to the Strait of Gibraltar, where they feed on Atlantic bluefin tuna as it passes through during its migration.
